John J. Nance
And as if that isn’t enough to qualify him as a Renaissance man, John J. Nance the author, broadcaster (and licensed attorney), is the same John J. Nance who’s become one of North America’s most dynamic and in-demand professional speakers, motivating hundreds of corporate, medical, and hi-tech audiences to communicate and cooperate as pilots do in airline cockpits.
Thirty years and 13,000 hours of flight time as an airline and Air Force pilot have formed the basis of his respected credibility in aviation, but his unequaled talent as a storyteller of unforgettable characters and amazing plots has thrust his highly successful literary career into a class by itself. John J. Nance combines lightning-paced, intelligent fiction with realistic characters you can’t forget. As the Seattle Times said in 1996, “John Nance simply has no peers in this genre.”
Skyhook is John’s 14th major book and his 10th heart-stopping thriller. Earlier worldwide successes include The New York Times’best-selling Pandora’s Clock, Medusa’s Child, and The Last Hostage. Pandora’s Clock and Medusa’s Child each became highly successful two-part mini-series for network television.
A native Texan who grew up in Dallas, John holds both a Bachelor’s Degree and a Juris Doctorate from SMU, and is a member of the Texas bar. A decorated veteran of Vietnam and Operations Desert Shield/Storm, he is also a Lt. Colonel in the US Air Force Reserve and is well known in military circles for his pioneering advocacy of human factors flight safety education.
Before joining ABC News, John had previously logged countless appearances on all the major networks, as well as shows such as Larry King Live, PBS News Hour with Jim Lehrer, Oprah, Nova, ABC’s PrimeTime Live, 20/20, NBC’s The Today Show, and many, many others. His editorials have been published in newspapers across the nation, including The Los Angeles Times and USA Today, and he has become the most-quoted aviation authority in the English language.
As a professional pilot, John has flown a wide variety of Boeing, Douglas, and Lockheed aircraft, as well as business jets, turboprops, and many others. He currently captains his own corporate turbine aircraft and continues to serve as a Boeing 737 Captain for a major U.S. carrier.
In addition to his writing, broadcasting, and flying careers, John J. Nance is on the road 150 days annually as a sought-after motivational/professional speaker and a trusted leader in revolutionizing corporate cultures with communication and teamwork. With his entertaining, highly motivational, yet informative style, he is in demand to give keynote speeches at meetings, conventions, and symposiums worldwide.
