Marsha Diane Arnold

I grew up on a small farm in the middle of Kansas wheat fields. I went to school in a two-room country schoolhouse. It felt like the middle of nowhere! I had lots of time for dreaming . . . and reading. I loved reading so much I majored in English literature at Kansas State University. I liked to study and graduated cum laude, also receiving a secondary teaching credential.

When I was young I didn’t think I could ever be a writer. I read instead. It was not until I was home raising two children that I turned to writing. The delightful musings of two preschoolers and the frustrations, challenges, and joys of raising them led to writing down my thoughts, which eventually become a column, Homegrown Treasures. The syndicated column ran for 10 years and won three Best Local Columnist awards from the California Newspaper Association. Now I love to write picture books and to visit schools to talk with children about stories and writing.
