Rebecca Tingle was born in Utah as the oldest child in a largefamily–three boys and five girls. She grew up reading armfuls ofnovels from the Orem Public Library, riding horses, acquiring as manypets as her parents would allow (three dogs, three cats, two budgies, ahermit crab, and various reptiles and amphibians), hiking the WasatchRange of the Rocky Mountains with her brothers, and training inclassical ballet. Upon graduating from high school, she began a shortprofessional ballet career with Ballet West and also pursued a B.A. inEnglish at the University of Utah. After earning an M.A. in Englishwith a medieval specialization at Brigham Young University, she went toOxford University as a Rhodes Scholar to study Old English literature.
Tingle returned home to Utah having written the first few chapters of anovel about AEtheflaed of Mercia. She worked for a year as a member ofthe Brigham Young University Admissions Committee before marrying BryceTingle, a Canadian lawyer, and moving to Calgary, Alberta. There shefinished her novel, The Edge on the Sword, and began a second book,which is almost complete. Rebecca and Bryce are the parents of twodaughters, Miranda and Afton.
