There’s just something about Clare. Apart from the ghosts…
When her eccentric aunt passes away, no-nonsense accountant Clare Cermak inherits more than just a small fortune. She receives the gift of communicating with ghosts. While Clare may not believe in spirits, it’s hard to overlook the shadowy talking dog appearing on her bed or spectral cowboys tipping their hats to her in the streets of Denver. And when she locks eyes with sexy—and living—Zach Slade, there’s certainly no ignoring him either.
A former deputy sheriff, Zach is leaving a painful past behind in Montana for a new life in Denver as a private investigator, a job that has him crossing paths with beautiful Clare. Not that she minds. After the restless ghost of a Wild West gunman demands her assistance, Clare finds herself needing Zach more and more—and not just for help.

Dear Reader Letter

An edgy lawman whose leg and life have been shattered… an uptight, rational accountant who’s inherited a psychic “gift” along with a fortune…and ghosts of Old West gunmen…Welcome to the Ghost Seer series by RITA Award-Winning author Robin D. Owens.

I was born and raised in Denver, Colorado (went away for college and came back for family) and most of my life I was less than interested in Western History and more fascinated with European castles. But lately I like writing stories set in Denver.

And I wanted to write a story about a very rational woman who inherited a psychic gift. Wouldn’t she think she was going crazy?

In my other series I’ve explored extremely odd magic, so this time I thought I’d stick to something a bit more acceptable. Like seeing ghosts. To me, it was only natural to think of local history and stories I’d heard throughout my life, and thus Clare Cermak, my accountant who can see ghosts of the Old West was created.

The one aspect that most my readers love and expect from me is an animal companion, so it wasn’t too hard of a stretch for me to introduce a nice ghostly Labrador to be Clare’s friend, foil, and mentor. It was Enzo the dog who informed me that the human mind could only see ghosts from one.

For a hero, I liked the idea of man with an edge, born to serve and protect, but no longer able to work as a deputy sheriff in Montana. If he wants to continue in an investigative career, he has to go private, and it feels like being bought to him. Naturally, he too, has an eerie whiff of a paranormal gift—a trace of foretelling the future. Not that he accepts that.

And the ghosts! Such a rich history of Western characters we have here in Colorado…and Wyoming…to start. For the first one, I chose the gunfighter that started all the myths of such a man, and who isn’t nearly as well-known as those who came later—Jack Slade. A fascinating guy who had the guts and know-how to establish a division of the Overland Stage and the Pony Express, and the fearsome personal reputation to keep the peace.

So those were the characters that strode into my mind and demanded that I tell their stories—or at least part of their stories. More featuring Zach and Clare, my first continuing hero and heroine from book to book, are upcoming. I’m excited to tell them and hope you enjoy visiting with them.

Contemporary paranormal is a new and extremely entertaining shift, and this first novel is humorous, poignant, and loads of fun. I can’t help but give GHOST SEER a Perfect 10 for the excellent writing, research, and very realistic characters. The all-too-human Zach and Clare, and the loveable, and yet mysterious Enzo make this character-driven tale difficult to put down.—Jani Brooks, Romance Reviews Today
