Overview

Instead of the deadly force it once was, magic is now a useless novelty. But not for Shame Flynn and Terric Conley, “breakers” who have the gift for reverting magic back to its full-throttle power. In the magic-dense city of Portland, Oregon, keeping a low profile means keeping their gifts quiet. After three years of dealing with disgruntled magic users, Shame and Terric have had enough of politics, petty magic, and, frankly, each other. It’s time to call it quits.

When the government discovers the breakers’ secret—and its potential as a weapon—Shame and Terric suddenly become wanted men, the only ones who can stop the deadly gift from landing in the wrong hands. If only a pair of those wrong hands didn’t belong to a drop-dead-gorgeous assassin Shame is falling for as if it were the end of the world. And if he gets too close to her, it very well could be….

Dear Reader Letter

Dear Reader,

Here’s the thing: I loved writing the Allie Beckstrom urban fantasy series. It filled me with writerly glee to follow her and her friends as they navigated a modern world where everyone can use magic. Of course there was one little catch about magic in Allie’s world. When anyone used it, it used them right back, dealing out pain for every magical act committed.

After nine books of prices paid, disasters almost always averted, and rewards earned, Allie’s adventures were completed, her loves lost, her joys found. So I reluctantly said my farewells to Allie Beckstrom and the magic-fueled world of Portland, Oregon.

And then a funny thing happened. Readers wanted to know more. More about the world, more about magic, and certainly more about the sarcastic, fatalistic Death magic user, Shame Flynn who had given up his life and so very much more for his good friend Allie. Readers wanted to know how he was going to deal with being soul-tied and magic-bound to his ex-best friend Terric Conley, a man he’d vowed to avoid so as not to repeat his previous mistake of killing him.

When readers ask questions, I listen. Soon the answers, the twists and turns, the adventures of Death magic user, Shame and Life magic user, Terric took shape. It’s only been three years since the events in the last Allie book, but Shame Flynn’s magic-fueled Portland Oregon is not at all the same world we’ve seen.

Old vendettas take on deadly forms, friends and enemies choose new sides, and even magic isn’t what it used to be. It is a gritty world, it is a broken world, it is a hopeful world. It is Shame’s world.

Thank you, readers for your notes, tweets, emails, questions and comments. Your curiosity made me curious, your excitement made me even more excited. I hope you’ll enjoy the books if you get a chance to read them. Because here’s the thing: I loved writing the Shame Flynn urban fantasy series and I am grateful for the chance to share his world with you.
