Overview

The vampires of Asheville, North Carolina, want to establish their own clan, but since they owe loyalty to the Master Vampire of New Orleans they must work out the terms with him. To come up with an equitable solution, he sends an envoy with the best bodyguard blood money can buy: Jane Yellowrock.

But when a group of local campers are attacked by something fanged, Jane goes from escort to investigator. Unless she wants to face a very angry mast vampire, she will have to work overtime to find the killer. It’s a good thing she’s worth every penny.

Q&A

In RAVEN CURSED, Jane finds herself hunting down rogue weres in Asheville, NC. Is this an area you’re familiar with? Why did you decide to set the book there?

Faith: I simply adore the Asheville area. The city is nestled into the surrounding hills like a litter of kittens snuggled into their big–cat mom. The city seems to have everything! It has higher learning centers, arts and crafts and design galore. The lifestyle is laidback and easy. The food is fan–dang–tastic! There are spiritual centers of every religion, both old– and new–age mystical, transcendental, old doctrine, modern interpretations, wiccan, and universal, to name a very few. The Cherokee still have a foothold in the hills around, and in those hills there is hiking, wildlife, mighty rivers, wild creeks, and stunning waterfalls––places where the Earth still seems to breathe with magic. It is the perfect place for Jane to have chosen when she left the Christian children’s school where she grew up. Her ancient history is near there. Her past. (Thinking about Asheville.) Yeah. I need to get back there!

Your narrator, Jane Yellowrock, is a shapeshifter with the ‘soul’ of a mountain lion living inside her, and Beast has a really strong voice of her own. Do you ever get fan mail for her?

Faith: Oh yes! Beast signed books at Dragon Con this past fall. Beast has her own fan page on Facebook. Seriously. Just type in a Facebook search for Beast. She’s a star! She even came up with a motto: Embrace Your Inner Beast.

Who would you rather date, a vampire or a were? (Our apologies to your husband!)

Faith: Vamp. (Oh. Did I say that too fast?) Well, I’d rather be with a vamp who is totally sane and in control of his bloodlust. In Jane’s world, lycanthropy is deadly to females who get bitten, while vamps are tall dark and gorgeous. That said, vamps do tend to have a problem with moodiness.

Who would Jane rather date, a vampire, a blood–servant, a human or a were?

Faith: Jane is halfway in love with two (maybe three) different guys, but she’s picky. She thinks she wants a human. Despite Beast’s proclivities, she wants to be a one–man woman, and she wants a one–woman–man. Those are difficult to find, especially when Jane’s lifestyle prohibits the white picket fence, dog, and 2.5 kids. And then there is Beast, who has her own ideas about how Jane should live and who (and how many) she should love.

What can we expect next for Jane Yellowrock?

Faith: Jane has to learn who she was and meld that with who she is now. Her early years were full of trauma, both emotional and physical, and that trauma has given her both her strength and her weaknesses. She needs to deal with all that painful history before she can move on.

Jane also needs to make a living and for her, that means hunting down rogue vampires, so she’ll follow where that market leads her. For now that is Asheville. Maybe she’ll end up back in New Orleans. Or maybe Natchez, Mississippi. Have Stakes Will Travel.

Jane also has to deal with Rick LaFleur and who he is now. Then there is Bruiser…And Leo. She has men in her life and her Beast wants her to pick and choose. Or take them all. As long as the man is strong and a good hunter, Beast is not picky. Jane is. That makes for an interesting dual internal dialogue.
