Pamela Dorman Books launched its first hardcover list in January 2010. The imprint focuses on the kind of books Dorman has published throughout her career: fiction—especially debut fiction that is both well-written and accessible–character-driven novels propelled by strong storytelling and rich emotional cores. These are books that are aimed at an upmarket popular audience, both literate and commercial, the kinds of novels that reading groups adopt, that readers treasure, and that will have long lives in trade paperback and e-book formats ahead of them. Dorman also publishes the occasional non-fiction title, particularly books that have a distinctive voice and compelling narrative drive, including memoirs, psychology and books geared towards women’s interests.
In her more than twenty years at Viking Penguin, Pamela Dorman acquired and edited the multi-million copy #1 bestsellers The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd, The Memory Keeper’s Daughter by Kim Edwards, Bridget Jones’s Diary by Helen Fielding and The Deep End Of The Ocean by Jacquelyn Mitchard, which was the first selection of the Oprah Book Club, along with many other fiction and non-fiction bestsellers. In 2006, she became Vice-President, Editorial Director of Voice, a new imprint for women at Hyperion, where she acquired and edited the fiction bestsellers The Physick Book of DeliveranceDane by Katherine Howe and The Monsters of Templeton by Lauren Groff, and edited Candace Bushnell’s bestseller One Fifth Avenue. At Hyperion/Voice, Dorman also acquired and edited the bestselling memoirs The Middle Place by Kelly Corrigan and Perfection by Julie Metz. She has also edited such bestselling authors as Stephen King and Jeffery Deaver, and has worked with such prominent figures as Bill Gates (The Road Ahead), Marcia Clark (Without a Doubt), Karen Hughes (Ten Minutes from Normal), and NBC correspondent Andrea Mitchell (Talking Back)on their bestselling memoirs. She rejoined the Penguin Group in 2008 to found her eponymous imprint, Pamela Dorman Books. She began her publishing career at St. Martin’s Press and is a summa cum laude graduate of Wesleyan University.
