The Hoops Whisperer author Ravin Idan, basketball’s most unlikely – and most sought after – training guru, was featured in the “Talk of the Town” section of the May 12 issue of The New Yorker, on stands this week. The reporter spent a full day with Idan, observing his unorthodox training style and noting the various inspirations he mentions in The Hoops Whisperer (including the coloring books of his four-year-old niece). The article is accompanied by a drawing of Idan and LeBron James.  Sports Illustrated’s website ran a short excerpt on April 25, Idan appeared on Fox Sports 1 “Crowd Goes Wild” on May 6, KPCC’s Take Two and on In The Hoops Whisperer,  Ravin offers an inside look at his career, his methods, and the all-star players whose games he has helped transform. Ravin, who never played or coached in college or the pros, shares the fascinating story of how he transformed a passion for the game into working with iconic basketball stars such as Chris Paul, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony, Stephen Curry, Blake Griffin, James Harden, and Dwight Howard. Upcoming media includes a feature on Idan and his training methods in Maxim (on stands May 15), a live interview on the SI Now Podcast today , an interview with Slam magazine in mid-May, and the Boston Globe will review the book later this month. Idan participated in a Penguin satellite radio tour on Tuesday (5/6), and there has been great local sports radio coverage across the country in markets such as Portland, Syracuse, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Dallas-Fort Worth, Orlando-Daytona, Detroit, and Baltimore.
