In anticipation of the June 5 movie release of  The Fault in Our Stars, based on John Green’s #1 bestselling novel, 20th Century Fox launched a “Demand the Stars” tour last week with four events in Miami, FL; Cleveland, OH; Nashville, TN; and Dallas, TX. With crowds ranging from 2,000 to 5,000 in each market, the tour was a fantastic success.  Featuring  John Green and cast from The Fault in Our Stars film, each event included an exclusive 10-minute featurette with clips from the movie, cast interviews, and a behind-the-scenes peek at the filming. The clip was followed by a 30-minute Q&A with Green and actors Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort and Nat Wolff. The tour made the front page of The Cleveland Plain Dealer with one fan quoted as saying, “Mom, as long as I’m in the same room and breathing the same air as John Green, I don’t care.” Tumblr “meet and greets” after the event allowed select winners to get posters and books signed by John and the cast, as well as a photo opportunity. These more intimate gatherings allowed for moments such as this one in Dallas. The Nashville tour was featured in this week’s PW Daily and a red carpet at each stop ensured extensive local and national coverage. Tuesday morning,  NBC’s Today Show announced John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars (Dutton Children’s Books, 1/10/12; Speak, 4/8/14) as its May Book Club Pick.  Green sat down with Today host Willie Geist for a one-on-one interview, in which he talks about why he wrote the book, his involvement with the film, and the actors who were chosen to play his characters. The month-long Today promotion will include giveaways, and outreach with trivia questions on Today’s social media platforms, culminating in a Google Hangout on June 2 from the New York premiere of The Fault in Our Stars on the red carpet with Green and cast members. In other John Green news, BuzzFeed visited the Amsterdam set of The Fault in Our Stars  film for their feature interview with Green. The piece gives an overview of his involvement with the movie, online career and backlist, as well as mentioning This Star Won’t Go Out: The Life and Words of Esther Grace Earl (Dutton Children’s Books, 1/28).
