Dear Friends of The Help:

It has been an incredible ride since I started writing The Help in September 2001. After more than sixty rejections from agents, I am still surprised to see The Help on a shelf in a bookstore.

And when readers share with me their personal connection to The Help, I am proud and humbled by their stories. Often, I am asked how I learned about the civil rights era and conducted my research. I always smile and shrug and say, I'm still learning from readers, every day.

The message that, to me, sums up the essence of The Help, and I hope will stay with readers, is in the author essay, where I highlight a few lines from the book:

"Wasn't that the point... for women to realize, We are just two people. Not that much separates us. Not nearly as much as I'd thought."

That these words are being read and embraced by people of so many worlds and backgrounds is incredible. And for this, I thank you.

Along with my thanks, I'd like to share with you some of the other exciting things brewing around The Help. This Spring and Fall, I'm so excited to hit the road again on tour, in the United States and Europe . And Dreamworks will be filming the movie, The Help, which honestly blows my mind.

There's much more so I hope you will check out this new site that will keep you up to date on all things Help related.

My sincerest thanks,
Kathryn Stockett
